BIKES FOR EVERY BODY - ADAPTIVE CYCLING RESOURCE

Electric Assist

Most adaptive bikes are larger and heavier than standard bicycles, the addition of electric assist provides the boost of power that riders may need to help carry the bike, themselves, and in some cases, an additional rider. Electric assist can improve the riding experience, save stress on joints and muscles, and for some riders, it may be the difference between riding and being inactive.

Most manufacturers offer an electric assist option.

SAFETY NOTE: While electric assist can vastly improve your riding experience, before adding electric assist to any bicycle, check with your manufacturer as some bikes may not be designed for high speeds. For safety, have a kit installed by a bike shop experienced in electric assist.  You may also need that shop for maintenance.

Purchasing the lowest cost electric assist option may not be the safest decision.

Review your state laws regarding electric assist bicycles and obey all traffic laws.
